- Subclass 601 – Electronic Travel Authority
- Subclass 651 – eVisitor
Which visa should I apply for?
Successfully obtaining a visitor visa to come to Australia temporarily can be a lot tougher than most people would expect. Selecting the right visa will depend on your nationality, purpose of your visit as well as the length of your stay in Australia.
For example, the Subclass 600 – Visitor Visa has multiple streams including:
- tourist stream – for people travelling to Australia for a holiday or to visit family or friends;
- business visitor stream – for people travelling to Australia for short-term business purposes, such as conferences, negotiation or meetings;
- sponsored family stream – for people sponsored by an eligible relative wanting to travel to Australia to visit family.
What are the main requirements?
The main requirement for visitor visas are:
- demonstrate you are a genuine temporary entrant
- demonstrate you have strong incentive to return to your home country
- the purpose and duration of visit
- being of good character and health
What are some of the common issues or reasons for refusals?
Depending on your country of passport and your personal circumstances, there may be a high risk that your application to visit Australia will be refused.
The main issue with visitor visa applications are meeting the genuine temporary entrant (GTE) criteria, which are becoming more and more difficult to meet.
Other reasons you may be refused include: are:
- you have adverse and/or long immigration history.
- you have applied for a permanent visa in Australia.
- you have family members or a partner living in Australia.
- your home country is in unstable conditions.
- you have health of character issues.
